Blackhand Gorge Nature Preserve - Heath, Ohio

This past weekend I went on a trip to Ohio to visit Darrin. He's been working out there for a few months now and I haven't been to visit yet. I had plans to go to a vegan meet up picnic in Pittsburgh on Saturday. I figured that I'd just double the trip and go to Ohio afterwards.

I tried a new vegan restaurant and will be sharing what I ate throughout the weekend in a future post. I wanted to dedicate this post to just sharing photos, thoughts, and memories from our main hiking trip at Blackhand Gorge in Heath, Ohio.

I've never really explored much nature in Ohio so I went into hiking on Sunday with no expectations for the day. We started out early in the day and pretty much had the place to ourselves.

You start out on a paved path and have the option to take various paths throughout the woods. Each path is easy to follow and are various distances, offering something for everyone.

We took the Quarry Rim Trail that was my absolute favorite. It was so beautiful and unlike any other trail I've hiked. The trail takes you the whole way around the quarry, giving you various views and an entertaining hike.

We packed cereal, Larabars, Clifbars, and water to snack on throughout the morning and early afternoon adventures. I tried a mocha Larabar for the first time and it was amazing!

This was my favorite view of the quarry. Mainly because it was a perfect place to take a picture!

We walked down to the river once we were back on the main path and came upon a sandy area with a broken rope swing. If the rope was still intact I would have been in the (very cold) water! But instead I just stayed along the bank and (accidentally) filled my shoes with sand. Not complaining!

We eventually made our way back to the car as the paths were livening up and others were starting to come out to enjoy the beautiful day. I was so pleased with the experience and Blackhand Gorge. It's a very clean, unique, and wonderful place to spend the day if you're looking for a free and fulfilling Ohio adventure!
